This section describes the types of lighting that are exempt from the provisions of this chapter; however, other sections of the Monroe Municipal Code, where appropriate, may apply.

A. Sign lighting that is governed by Chapter 22.50 MMC.

B. Lighting for religious purposes or events; a permit for such lighting shall be obtained and may be regulated to prevent safety hazard or fire damage.

C. Temporary lighting for theatrical, television, and performance areas. Lighting shall be removed no later than twenty-four hours following the abandonment or dismantling of the affected area.

D. Lighting in swimming pools and other water features.

E. Code-required exit signs.

F. Temporary holiday lighting; provided, that individual lamps are five watts maximum.

G. Lighting required and regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration or other federal or state agency.

H. Lighting within public rights-of-way.

I. Lighting for and within individual dwelling units, with the exception of common areas. Examples of common areas include, but are not limited to, pathways, clubhouses, parking lots and play areas.

J. Lighting necessary for emergency equipment and work conducted in the interests of law enforcement or for the safety, health or welfare of the public. (Ord. 032/2007 § 1)
