A. It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain any building, structure or land in the city, or cause the same to be done, contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter.

B. Except as otherwise provided in this chapter or by law, any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this chapter, including any permit or directive issued pursuant to this chapter, shall be subject to enforcement in accordance with Chapter 1.04 MMC. Provided, that the unauthorized removal, mutilation, destruction of, or tampering with any official notice, sign, tags, or seal posted, issued or otherwise displayed pursuant to this chapter shall constitute a gross misdemeanor, and a separate offense for each and every day or portion thereof during which any such violation is committed, continued, or permitted and upon conviction of any such violation such violation shall be subject for a maximum term fixed by the court of not more than one year, or by a fine in an amount fixed by the court of not more than five thousand dollars, or by both such imprisonment and fine.
